My goal is to encourage more girls to play chess, and provide avenues for girls to enjoy the thrill of playing in a tournament.

About

Hello, my name is Antara. I am a 15 year old girl chess player. I have been playing chess for around 6 years, a club tournament director and president of my high school chess club. I am one of the top girl players in the state and nationally for my age, but more importantly chess is an integral part of my identity. I have learned skills that have translated beyond chess and into life. Chess taught me the value of hard work, dedication and the process of decision making.

The one thing which has often intrigued me, has been the overwhelming dominance of male players versus female players in the field. This situation has improved over time but chess is still considered a highly male dominated sport. Less than 15% of chess players are girls and the numbers drop dramatically with age.

I would like to use this platform to talk about my experience playing chess as a teenage girl, the impact chess has had on the larger decision making in life and hopefully inspire other girls to play chess.

Join the group and together we can build a fun community of girl chess players.
